Statement
Metra Drulle
In my artistic practice, I seek the most precise visual language to express personal emotions, inner states, and subtle psychological experiences. Printmaking forms the foundation of my work, particularly collagraphy, monotype, and linocut.
Through continuous experimentation with the technical possibilities and limitations of these processes, I aim to expand the boundaries of traditional graphic art. I explore the space between intaglio and relief printing, challenging conventional distinctions and searching for approaches where technique does not limit the idea but instead becomes an intuitive and flexible tool for expression.
I frequently incorporate unconventional materials — threads, textiles, and natural elements — that are not typically associated with printmaking. These materials introduce texture, tactility, and organic forms, allowing the surface of the work to carry emotional and sensory meaning.
My process is slow and meditative, both physically and emotionally. Time, repetition, and careful manual labor are essential parts of my practice. For me, the act of making is inseparable from the concept itself.
Women, poetic or whimsical figures, and nature are recurring subjects in my work. I approach them with sensitivity and intimacy, reflecting on the connection between human feelings and the natural world. Rather than provoking tension or conflict, I seek to create images that offer stillness, quietness, and a sense of harmony.
