The series “Secrets” brings together the delicacy of intaglio with the structural unity of relief printing, creating a visual dialogue between two classical printmaking techniques. Each work is a unique experiment in the layering of materials and impressions – textures overlap to form a multi – layered space in which landscape and human presence merge into a single field.
The visual language of the series is defined by a restrained, cool palette – dominated by greys, bluish and sandy tones – evoking a sense of memory, time, and places that feel both familiar and slightly forgotten. At its core lies the poetics of inhabited landscapes: courtyards, houses, agricultural buildings, fragments of lake-filled scenery, and urban spaces. Motifs of animals and plants interact with architectural and geometric elements, forming compositions in which nature and the built environment are not opposed, but intricately intertwined.
In Mētra Drulle’s graphic series “Secrets,” intaglio and relief techniques function as a metaphor for layered perception. The series explores the everyday poetics of Latvian rural and urban landscapes—courtyards, homes, lakes, and seasonal transitions. The works were created on paper in approximately A3 format in 2025.
